Brendan joined the clan on April 15th at 5:35 pm. He was a big boy, weighing 9lbs 5 oz and 21 inches long. He is a good and calm baby which is a nice balance to his whirlwind sister. Maeve is adjusting very well and finally starting to interact with Brendan, so that is promising. We are all adjusting. Check out the pictures in the photo gallery.

Is Maeve’s World getting bigger or smaller?

It has been quite a while since my last update and while sitting at the computer tonight it occurs to me that this may be my last post before Maeve has a sibling and we are a family of four. Will it be a brother or will it be a sister? Will she accept the new arrival in stride or will she be jealous? There is no way to tell but the answer lies a mere 3 weeks away, hopefully.

Maeve has been in full blown two year old mode lately. There are tantrums for everything, going to the store, brushing teeth or hair, getting dressed, or walking the dog. Maeve is still, of course, a wonderful and spirited girl but right now our worlds are colliding---she needs to assert her independence even more and I am an exhausted, emotional and hormonal woman who swallowed a basketball and I am not at my best for dealing with her assertions! Hopefully, any emotional trauma I am causing is reversible!!

We have been enjoying the beautiful spring weather and going to the park daily (practically) to reunite with our mom’s group friends that we haven’t been able to see as often during the winter months. Maeve is loving working with puzzles and is increasingly interested in how things work---she has been known to take pieces off of our beloved Dyson vacuum cleaner. She is also developing a real interest in letters. While she does not know all of them, she loves to show me signs and ask what they say and she loves it when I write her name. So we are very excited for her to start preschool in a few months. We have found a Montessori school not too far from our house and have enrolled Maeve 3 mornings a week in the fall. They also have a summer program and so I am hoping to send her starting in June or July. I think she will enjoy it immensely. She talks about school often and didn’t want to leave the two times we visited the preschool. It will give her the stimulation that I can’t and will give me time with the newest family member and being a mother of two!

Another great development over the last few months is her love of Daddy! She loves playing iPhone games with him and going on adventures! It is really cute to watch them together.

Other than that, not much new here. Since you all know Trip, you know that you will hear about the new arrival probably seconds before the kid actually arrives!!! I think the last time I was talking to people before the doctors and nurses were finished with me! Hope all is well and we will keep you posted. Stay Tuned!

We are trying to start the new year off on a positive note after the trying end to 2008.

The end of 2008 was not all bad though. We had a lovely visit with family in North Carolina, and Virginia. Also, Uncle Andy was able to spend Christmas with us and that was really fun too. Maeve had a wonderful Christmas and our spirits were lifted by watching her enjoy it! Most importantly, our New Year’s Resolution was to potty train Maeve and I dare say that she has mastered it! It has been almost a week and no accidents. Night training, however, has fallen to the wayside after Mommy decided that Maeve is just too deep a sleeper to be awoken to empty her bladder. Not worth the trauma on Mommy or Maeve so we will save that for a more mature bladder.
It was a blast. We were very fortunate that all of our friends could come and help us celebrate. I think that everyone had a good time. We played at the inflatable playground and topped it off with some ice cream cake with the image above printed on the cake---sorry, no pictures of the actual cake. Thanks again to everyone for coming and for all the wonderful gifts.

One of Maeve’s presents was a pair of Minnie Mouse high heels that she loves---check out the pictures of her cruising around the house. It is hysterical to see in real life.
Tonight, we took Maeve Trick-or-Treating for the first time. She was dressed as a fairy just like her buddy Abbie from Sesame Street. After the trauma of putting on her costume passed, and recovering only with the help of Elmo--even candy didn’t work, let’s just say that Maeve is not a fan of tights! I was afraid that she would really hurt herself when she threw herself back on the changing table and hit her head on the wall. But as Grandpa says, “No brains, no headaches!” (Of course I know that Maeve has plenty of brains---she outwits me more than once a day!) Once we left the house she really enjoyed it. We went to the neighbor’s house and then we met up with our friends over in their neighborhood to gather some more loot. Everyone had a great time. Maeve cried when Trip took away her candy bucket in order to get her out of the car seat!

Check out the pictures!
P.S. The blue lips are from a lollipop--not lipstick.
P.P.S. Sorry if this entry is a bit garbled---it has been a long day and Mommy didn’t get her nap!
